4/5/05

So I'm at my internship this morning and get to talking with one of the OTs about grad school and what I have left to get done before I start.  I mention the TB test and the Titer test (yeah, this one they draw blood to prove I developed antibodies to the chicken pox way back when).  She informs me that I can get them both done for free right there are the hospital and can even get them done today!  Um..... yeah.... I say okay, why not.  This way I don't schedule an appointment for next week then have all week to think about it and dread it.  So I go, and the lady does the TB test and I'm thinking I'm going to have to come back for the Titre test but no, she does it then too.  And it hurt!  Then I had to sit there for twenty minutes because I had informed her about my tendency to lose consciousness when around needles, so she checked my heart rate and it was 108 bpm.  So I sat there for 20 minutes till it got back down to about 60 bpm then she let me go.  What a great way to start off my morning....

I'm excited... me, Mama, and Kelley (my sister) are going to the beach for the weekend.  We leave tomorrow!  I can't wait!

4/15/05

So we made it to the beach!  Guess what, it's cold!  Oh well.  We're going to the House of Blues tonight to see the Backstreet Boys in concert.

The concert was great.  We were really close, the music was really good.  We actually got to meet on of the guys before the show behind the House of Blues.  Howie I think is his name...

So we wanted to relax and lay out all weekend but since there's this tropical weather system out in the ocean somewhere it's a little cold and windy.  So we went shopping all day today.  We ate at Yamato's on Broadway at the Beach.  We just got back from Studebaker's.  That's a club where they mostly play oldies type music.  They play some country and hip hop but it's mostly shagging music.  We had so much fun!!

Mood:  Reflective
Listening to: Creed "One Last Breath"

Well, it's getting close to that time.  Next week starts the two week process of final exams.  Then I get three weeks of "break" before I start MUSC where I'll be in school for two years, year 'round.  *sighs*  I get depressed and stressed just thinking about it.  It's a good thing I'll be in Charleston.  Maybe the atmosphere and close proximity of beaches will help lift my mood.  But with the future quickly approaching (as it so often does), I have started thinking about where my life is going and who I am becoming.  These thoughts take me back to a book I was given for my high school graduation.  It was a very good book, very sentimental and insightful so I think I will take the time to write it down for those of you who may not otherwise have the opportunity to read it.

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Mood: a little sad
Listening to:  Backstreet Boys' new song "Incomplete"

Chi Sigma's senior night was tonight.  We had it at the Club House at Regency Park.  I had promised myself I would not cry but I've learned never to make any promises to myself because I seem to be somewhat unpredictable.  To my defense, it was my sisters' fault.  They fixed a nice big dinner for all the seniors, then had somebody talk about each of us, THEN they did an interpretive movement dance and dedicated it to us.  This was the big kicker.  They had all the seniors sit in a row at the front of the room and three girls got up to do the dance.  They did it to the song "Thank You" (you know, thank you for giving to the Lord...).  They each did a part of the song, then when it got to the part that says "one by one they came, far as the eye can see, each one somehow touched by your generosity...." the three girls at the front turned around to face the rest of the group and one by one all of the other sisters stood up.  Then when it hit the chorus again, the entire sorority was doing the interpretive movement.  Needless to say we were all up there searching for the tissue box.  Then we got in a big circle so the senior's one last chance to play the Pony Game (it's a tradition!).  Then we did our hug line.  The last thing we did was the presents.  Each senior got a decorated box.  Inside, each sister had written a note of encouragement and good wishes.  We were also given these really nice TV trays.  They were black and on the top they had spaces to put pictures.  They had taken pictures of each of us throughout the years and put them in there for us.  It was so very sweet!  Thank you girls, so much, for a great time and a great group of friends!  You are my sisters and I love you all!

May 1, 2005

Yesterday was the Braves Game.  That was my graduation present from Keith, he got us front row seats.  Those seats were awesome!  We were right behind the on-deck circle, two rows back.  We were practically right there on the field!!!  We got to watch both teams warm-up and do batting practice.  We got three autographs, but they were all Cardinals... I was so diappointed that I couldn't get Chipper's autograph.  It drizzled the entire game but I was so happy they didn't call the game.  It was also a televised so Keith's family called us all throughout the game telling us they saw us on the tv.  I had soo much fun!!

May 5, 2005

Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!  I had to get up early this morning to head back to Lander.  We had a luncheon for all the PEES graduates and faculty.  It was fun!  We had some good food, and a really good time.  I can't believe I won't be seeing those professors or those students anymore after Saturday.    It's sad!!  I got there like an hour early and ran into Heather at the mall, so I sat with her while she got her nails done.  Then we headed over to the PEES building to take care of some of our shirt order stuff.  Then we sat and talked until time to eat.  It's simple stuff like that I'm going to miss... just hanging out, ya know?  Oh well..... hopefully everybody will try to keep in touch!!!  For any of my Lander pals that are reading this, you'd better IM me, call me, or leave a message on my homepage message board from time to time!!!

May 21, 2005

So I'm in Charleston now.  I drove down here today and I actually made it all by myself.  I am so proud.  I didn't have to call anyone for directions, not even once..... of course all I had to do was get on 26 which turned into 17 which runs into the road my apartment is on.... so it was like one turn and that's it.... but hey, I can still be proud.  I am here by myself.  My roommate doesn't start school till sometime in June, while I start bright and early Monday morning.  Her cousin is doing an internship with a TV station down here for a month so she should be coming sometime soon, but not sure when.  Anyway, I have TONS of unpacking and settling in to get done so I should probably go now....

May 22, 2005

Could not sleep last night.  All by myself in a big city with weird noises...... yes, I'm a scaredy-cat.  I tossed and turned and finally decided to put in a movie.  Once I did fall asleep I woke up every hour or so.  So now I have the whole day ahead of me to do.... nothing.... so I guess I'd better get to it.

Okay, so it's now 5:30 and I just got back to my room.  Lisa (Vaughn), whom I grew up with and went to church with, is down here for pharmacy school.  She stopped by and picked me up. She showed me how to get to Folly Road which has a Bi-Lo and Walmart so I guess I'm all set.  Then she took me to her house (yes she has a house) and I stayed there talking to her for about two hours. Now I'm back here with nothing to do again.  I just might drive myself to Walmart.  My first drive around in Charleston, how exciting....

Okay, so I made like three trips to Walmart today.  Why?  Because that's the only place I know how to get to.  Pretty sad huh?  Well what else was I supposed to do?  We don't have TV hooked up yet so all I had was movies to watch, and no telephone.  Well, I have orientation bright and early in the morning so I'm gonna hit the sack.

May 23, 2005

WOW, today was really really long!!!  I had orientation at 8:30.  It was like an orientation to MUSC for the OTs, PTs, CSDs, PAs, and NAs.  I saw Hayes. I was excited to have someone there I knew from Lander.  Then at 9:30 I had another orientation.  This one was to the Rehab Science department for the OTs, PTs, and CSDs.  Then at 10:30 I had to go to financial aid to get my stuff straightened out, then to get my student ID made which I have to wear every day any time I'm on MUSC campus (how dorky right?).  Then lunch.  Then ANOTHER orientation at 2:00, this time just for the OTs.  Then it was over at 4:00 and then I had to go pick up my issued laptop.  We were issued laptops!  Woohoo.  But I walked to school this morning, and each orientation was in a building just a little further away than the first.  Then the building that housed my new laptop was all the way on the other side of campus... so it took me 45 minutes to walk back to my apartment carrying my heavy backpack full of all this useful (ahem) stuff they gave us plus my really heavy laptop.  And now I'm tired.  So I'm going to take a nap.

May 24, 2005

My first class was today.  It was a two hour lecture on techniques of research... a class I already took at Lander.  How wonderful.  Then I had yet ONE MORE orientation.  This was a library orientation because as grad students, we must not know how to use and utilize a library.....  Then I went and validated my ID card so that I can use the gym.  They have an awesome gym here.  When Lindsey (my roommate's cousin) got home from the station we went walking, then she took me riding around.  She lived here once before so she showed me how to get to the batter (and I finally figured out what the heck that was) and to the market, and she also showed me some really nice (and pricey) restaurants that I'm sure I will not be visiting very often.

May 27

I survived my first week of grad school.  Now I'm going home!

June 2

I had orientation at my clinical site this morning.  I'm doing my rotation at the Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding center, also called CATR (pronouncec "cater").  It's where therapists use horseback riding as treatment.  How awesomely cool is that?!  I'm so excited.

Robyn moved in yesterday.  I must say, that girl has more clothes than I'd know what to do with!  My mama thinks I'm bad? Ha!

Ugh, I have my first exam tomorrow.  It's for anatomy.  I've been studying my butt off for this thing.  It's only a "mini" exam, just to get us used to his testing format.  A mini exam.... and I have 75 flashcards plus the slides from power point.... a MINI exam!  Boy, I'm dreading the real thing.... well, guess it's back to studying.....
